About the Theatre

Eugene O’Neill Theatre

230 West 49th Street
New York, NY 10019

The Eugene O’Neill Theatre (originally named the Forrest Theatre) was built by the Shuberts in 1925 as part of a theatre-hotel complex named for classical actor Edwin Forrest. The theatre was eventually purchased by playwright Neil Simon, who sold it to Jujamcyn Theaters in 1982.

The O’Neill housed many flops in its beginning years but has since become one of the most desired theaters on Broadway. Recent prominent productions include Nine, Good Vibrations, Fela!, Sweeney Todd and the ground-breaking rock musical, Spring Awakening.
