New Season, New Shows

Dead Outlaw Cast Off Broadway

We’re anticipating the upcoming spring season of new shows and feel great about what’s on the boards and so should you!

Our President Pat Daily was able to catch three of the standouts at their pre-Broadway tryouts downtown and in London! These standouts are: Operation Mincemeat, Dead Outlaw and Stranger Things. See what she has to say below!

Operation Mincemeat, the Olivier Award winner for Best Musical, comes to Broadway from a sold-out multi-extended run in the West End (it’s still selling out) and Broadway audiences will have the good fortune of seeing it with its original cast!  These three shows have a few things in common – they are unique, dazzling, moving and wildly entertaining. And two of them, Operation Mincemeat and Dead Outlaw, are musicals based on true events!  Both are hysterical.  Mincemeat is a wild romp of a World War II counterintelligence scheme that goes awry.  The music is pop, R & B, sea shanty, you name it – all very clever and original -nary a jukebox tune amongst the many songs. Having seen this in London, I can say… you will have a blast.  The show never lets up but the audience keeps up with the plot’s twists and turns.  It’s a smart show leaving one to never feel as if they are ahead of the story but also, never confused.  Begins performances February 15thGreat for all ages.

Dead Outlaw – The title is a little strange, right?  Well, don’t let it discourage you.  This wildly inventive, very funny, off-beat and highly acclaimed new musical is about as great as it gets…  quirky and hilarious, with strikingly original music that simply dazzles. David Yazbek’s score (Tony award winner for The Band’s Visit) never ceases to amaze.  Again – all original, no jukebox melodies! It premiered off-Broadway and dominated the 2024 awards, taking home more prizes than any other musical.  That should tell you something, right?  It’s the story of an outlaw-turned corpse-turned celebrity.  You gotta see this one to believe it. Performances start April 12th.  Not sure yet as to the show’s age recommendations but based on having seen it, I would say 10+.

Stranger Things, the stunningly lavish, spectacle heavy production, previews March 28th and opens April 22nd. Along with extraordinary performances and a gripping storyline full of suspense, the production casts a spell over its audience as it has been doing in London where it’s a smashing success. The play is based on the hugely popular Netflix series of the same name and is helmed by an award-winning creative team including the director, Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot). The show won two Olivier Awards – for best new entertainment and for set and video design. Recommended for 12+.
