About
The Winter Garden theatre was originally built in 1896 to be the American Horse Exchange before it was redesigned and reopened in by the Shubert brothers 1911. After undergoing renovations in the 1920’s, the building now featured it’s current, larger-than-normal stage. The Ziegfeld Follies performed at the theater in 1934 and 1936 and featured performers such as Bob Hope and Fanny Brice.
The Winter Garden is still owned by the Shubert Organization. The theatre’s longest tenant was Cats which ran 7,485 performances spanning nearly nineteen years.
