Age Recommendation Guidelines for Student Friendly Shows
Age suitability and content sensitivities vary from person to person. This is a general guideline of the currently running Broadway shows considered student-friendly. Please consult your group specifically on their sensitivity level.
*Please note that children under 4 are not permitted in the theater, and all audience members must have a ticket.
Aladdin is appropriate for audiences of all ages.
And Juliet is recommended for ages 12 and up; contains strong language and some mature references.
Back to the Future is appropriate for audiences of all ages. [Contains some special effects and action sequences that may bother guests sensitive to intense lighting and sound.]
Buena Vista Social Club is suitable for audiences aged 10 and up.
Chicago is recommended for ages 13 and up; contains strong language, mature references, themes of violence, and references to drug and alcohol use.
The Great Gatsby is recommended for ages 10 and up; contains some strong language, stage violence, themes of adultery, and alcohol use.
Gypsy is recommended for audiences aged 12 and up. While Gypsy does not contain strong language or overt sexuality, there is some sexually suggestive content and frank depictions of abusive relationships.
Hadestown is recommended for ages 8 and up.
Hamilton is recommended for ages 10 and up; contains some strong language and mature content.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is suitable for ages 8 and up. [Contains some special effects and action sequences that may bother guests sensitive to intense lighting and sound.]
*Special notes, children under the age of 5 are not permitted in the theatre and children under the age of 15 will not be admitted without the accompaniment of an adult.
Hell’s Kitchen is recommended for ages 12 and up and contains strong language and moments with mature themes.
The Lion King is appropriate for audiences of all ages.
Little Shop of Horrors
Little Shop of Horrors is recommended for 10 and up due to some mature content and depictions of violence.
MJ the Musical is recommended for ages 10 and up; contains some mild language and depictions of abusive family relationships.
Maybe Happy Ending is recommended for ages 10 and up.
The Outsiders
The Outsiders is recommended for ages 10 and up. The novel is widely studied in middle schools 6th-8th grade, but does include adult themes such as depictions of gang violence, death, and use of strong language.
The Pirates of Penzance is recommended for ages 8 and up.
Six is recommended for ages 12 and up; this production contains references to violence, mature content and abuse in historical contexts.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow
Stranger Things: The First Shadow is recommended for ages 12 and up due to strong language and depictions of various mental health conditions and disorders. [This production contains gunfire audio, loud noises and explosions, haze and smoke, flashing lights and strobe.]
Suffs is recommended for ages 10 and up. This show contains some mild language, references to alcohol use, and historically informed depictions of racism, misogyny, and prison violence.
Water For Elephants is recommended for ages 8 and up. Contains some mild language and adult themes including abusive relationships and cruelty to animals.
Wicked is recommended for ages 8 and up. [Contains some special effects and action sequences that may bother guests sensitive to intense lighting and sound.]
A Wonderful World
A Wonderful World is recommended for ages 13 and up. The show contains strong language and mature content.
